2021 Annual Poetry Contest

Gathering all poets and artists! We are excited to bring back an amazing opportunity for Tulsa area students to showcase their talents and potentially win a cash prize! To celebrate Black History Month, we would like to invite you all to share your view of Black history and its impression on the world, the nation, your state or community.

Submit your original piece today! Deadline for submission is January 31st. The finalists’ videos will be displayed via Phi Beta Zeta’s Facebook page on Tuesday, February 16th to compete for the grand prize of $300. Submissions will also be in the running for People’s Choice Awards chosen by the student’s friends and family via Facebook. You don’t want to miss this opportunity and a chance to win CASH prizes!

Submission Guidelines:

  • Tulsa area High School Student
  • Must be an original piece of poetry, spoken word or song
  • Related to the theme “Black History and You”
  • Black History Month is discussed in many ways-from an award-winning thesis to hip-hop videos on MTV. This past year has been a redefinition in the pride and power Black culture has on America as a whole. How would you define blackness? What does Black History Month and the culture it embodies mean to you?
  • Performance should be 2-5 minutes long.
  • Get creative! Utilize Tik-Tok, make a YouTube video, or any other video platform to showcase your talent.
  • No cursing or foul language allowed.
  • Grand Prize: $300
  • Two (2) People’s Choice Awards: 1st place $125 and 2nd place $75
